There are few strikers, at the moment, in world football, that are better than Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The 27 year old Borussia Dortmund striker netted twice in the 4-1 drubbing of Borussia Mochengladbach on Saturday, but has thrown his future at the Signal Iduna Park into question.
The Gabon international is attracting a lot of European clubs, as his phenomenal striking rate in recent years, means he is a wanted man. The likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, PSG, Arsenal and Real Madrid are all looking at signing the player, and his latest comments must have put all of them on red alert.
It is believed the player is looking for a bigger challenge after growing frustrated with life in Germany, as his team are playing second fiddle to perennial winners, Bayern Munich, but given the Bavarians’ indifferent form this season, the player could play for Thomas Tuchel’s men till the end of the season, and see what the 1996 Champions League winners achieve.
Speaking after the game when asked about his future, where he took his tally for the season to 15 Bundesliga goals, he said,
“I don’t know if I will stay,” “I just think about playing good football right now. I want to give my best and win titles.“I just think about the sport and nothing else.” he added.
Aubameyang has hidden no desire of his to play for Real Madrid in the future, but it seems that the Spanish giants are content with their strike force of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Alvaro Morata. It was reported that Jose Mourinho made a move for the player in the summer, but the deal didn’t come to reality. Arsenal reportedly made a £80m bid for him last summer, which was rejected by his club.
Mourinho has identified the player as the prefect long term replacement to Wayne Rooney, who is on the last legs of his career. Aubameyang could be tempted by a move to Old Trafford because of the lure of the Premier League and the prestige of playing for Manchester United.
