Manchester United primary target Salvador Cabanas was reportedly shot in the head after agreeing to join the Red Devils.
The striker was attacked outside a club nightclub eight year ago after reportedly pre-signing a mouthwatering 1.3 million pounds, supposedly meant for a move to join United in 2010.
But the striker, now 38, was reportedly knocked down by a bullet to his head. A scare that almost scuppered his chances of kicking ball again.
However, he survived the brutal assault, after undergoing a six-hour operation.
Speaking to Telefuturo, Cabanas said: “I had signed a pre-contract agreement for £1.3million)for a transfer to Europe. They told me my destination would be Manchester United .
“Club America doubled my salary and gave me one apartment in Acapulco and another in Cancun to try and keep me at the club.”
The former Paraguayan prolific striker made a striking comeback to his native club after the attack, before hanging his boots two years later.
Cabañas found the back of the net 10 times for Paraguay during his glory days as a striker, in 44 appearances for the South American nation.
Life may have been bumpy for the striker since retiring two years after the incidence, but he added, “I am going to keep going forward.”
