This season for Manchester United in the Premier League was beset by injuries to key players and the Red Devil’s inability to win some games. Still, Mourinho has had the last laugh as we have now qualified for the Champions League, which was the minimum expectation of the proprietors and fans of Man United.
Following Champions League qualification, Mourinho has no choice than to bolster his otherwise strong squad in order to remain competitive. And top on the list of Mourinho’s transfer targets is France international Antoine Griezmann, reports the Express.
Griezmann was a subject of transfer interest from Manchester United last summer but they could not sign the attacker after spending colossal sums on Pogba and other transfer targets. The report now claims United are willing to fork out the asking price of £86million for the French man.
It was believed that the major attraction for Griezmann was not even the presence of his compatriot and friend Paul Pogba but Champions League football. With qualification already sealed, Atletico Madrid may be unable to hold on to their star.
The president of the Rojiblancos Enrique Cerezo had express optimism of keeping the player at the Vicente Calderon but James Ducker of the Daily and Sunday Telegraph’s Northern Football dismissed that claim with the following tweet last night.
“Expect Antoine Griezmann will now join United. He wants it resolved in next 2-3 weeks before he goes on honeymoon,”
If Griezmann completes United transfer this summer, he will provide quality option for United in the attack.
