Man United’s only chance at winning a trophy this season is the FA Cup and Mourinho will certainly be displeased if they fail to lift any trophy this term. The Portuguese manager has been tipped to reinforce his squad come next summer and Spanish silky forward Marco Asensio has been linked with a move, according to report.
Asensio made a name for himself earlier this season as he played in the stead of injured Gareth Bale, and he took all of his chances to shine. The youngster is highly rated and despite coming off the bench in 10 La liga games this term, he has scored six goals and assisted in four.
The 22-year-old star is not guaranteed a regular starting berth at Madrid and various reports have claimed that he will consider quitting the club at the end of the season, with Manchester United and Chelsea heavily linked.
According to the Express, United are weighing on a £176million (€200m) bid for the star when the transfer window comes alive.
Mourinho has a knack for spending big in the transfer window and he knows that he may not be able to compete with Manchester City if he doesn’t spend big. However, after signing Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal in the January transfer window, the Portuguese manager revealed that he will focus on the signing of a midfielder.
