Manchester United are set to lock horns with Chelsea in an off-pitch battle in a bid to lure Roma central midfielder Radja Nainggolan to the Premier League, reports the Metro.
Chelsea have enjoyed a spectacular season in the Premier and this they have done with no more than 14 players. Antonio Conte has managed his thin squad but if he’ll build on the recent success of team, he has to reinforce his squad ahead of next season.
The Blues have been linked with a plethora of star midfielders including Tiemoue Babayoko but they have a long standing interest in Nainggolan. He was reportedly on the radar of the Blues last summer and it appears that he is still wanted following his statement credited to Sky Sport news in March.
He was quizzed about a possible move to Stamford Bridge and replied as thus.
‘Yes. I talked to him [Conte],’
‘They were really interested and wanted me over there. That’s all I can say.’
Meanwhile, Man United will see Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick depart Old Trafford this summer, leaving the midfield of the Red Devils thread bare. Mourinho has no choice than to look for reinforcement that can partner Pogba for long term and Gianluca Di Mazio claims Nainggolan is a top choice for Mourinho.
Nainggolan, 28, has been dubbed one of the best and complete midfielders in Europe as he contributes effectively to the attack and defense of his team. No doubt, he’ll thicken the midfield of any team he laces his boots for.
It is believed that the player wants to remain in Rome but in the modern transfer market, money determines players movement to a large extent.
Nainggolan is valued at £35million
