Romelu Lukaku has himself tucked in a difficult corner. The Belgian striker, once a favourite for the front berth has lost his spot to England youngster Marcos Rashford in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team.
Though the former Chelsea man has made good strides in falling back into place, he is still yet to cement his spot on the Norwegian teamsheet.
For this reason, rumours drifting about have linked the striker with a move to join Nerazzurri Inter Milan.
Inter are locked in crazed talks with frontman Mauro Icardi. The Argentine has remained stubborn in negotiating a new contract with the side. He has also been stripped of the captaincy band, after allowing talks over his stay to drag out too long and out into the open. This has fueled talks Inter are already hunting for his replacement.
The Italian side haven’t had to look to far or hard enough. Lukaku has been selected as the Argentine successor.
United are understood to still have lingering interest in Chelsea target Icardi, and Inter are hopeful both outfits can make a swap deal.
This would see Lukaku enjoy more game time at Italy, and likewise Icardi.
Lukaku earns around 200,000-pounds-a-week as wage, but that will be no problem for Inter who eager to cut of Icardi.
Nonetheless, United will face a tough battle for the prolific scorer who has scored 122 times in 210 games. Chelsea, Real Madrid and Juventus all have eyes on the player.
