Manchester United are reportedly in pole position to sign Dutch and Ajax centre-back Matthijs de Ligt, this is according to reports.
de Ligt has been one of the standout players in the Eredivisie and he has attracted interest from top European clubs, who are looking to reinforce their defence.
Barcelona have retained their interest in the 19-year-old star but they are yet to make an offer for the star.
According to Tuttosport, United are frontrunners to sign the Dutch player. Juventus have also been mentioned as suitors for the star but he will get more chances in the Premier League than in the Seria A.
The report has claimed Juventus have envisaged a good future for the player and they want to sign him as part of their plan to build a formidable team for the years to come.
Andrea Barzagli, Giorgio Chiellini, Leonardo Bonucci and Medhi Benatia have all surpassed the twilight of their career, with the Old Lady already looking to sign replacement for them.’
Although Jose Mourinho has a plethora of defenders, he is still in the want of adding to that rank as he is not satisfied with the quality of players at his disposal.
United were linked to quite a chunk of players in the summer transfer window. However, De Ligt will be a good option for Mourinho.
He is valued at €50m according to the report.
