Jordi Alba is eager to leave Barcelona and Mourinho can finally swoop in on the Spanish left-back in January.
The Barcelona star has been touted to leave the Nou Camp after demands to extend his contract at the club has stalled.
Alba wants to keep playing for the Catalans, but according to news bandying about, the player is unhappy at the moment, since talks to extend his stay at the outfit has not taken off.
Barcelona has yet to hand the 29-year-old a new deal. Alba still has 18 months left on his contract.
However, with so much involved in the mix over his stay at the Nou Camp, Manchester United have entered the fray.
United have been miserable in the left-back berth and homing in on a world-class talent like Alba could be the antidote to that berth in Mourinho’s squad. The Portuguese has labelled the worried star as his “greatest obsession”.
Trying to sign Toby Alderweireld, that opportunity appears to be slipping further away from United’s grip. It is unlikely Spurs will offload any of their stars in January.
Jordi Alba packs enough under his belt, and if United make a move for the 29-year-old in January, it could bolster their chances of finishing in the top four at the end of this season.
Nonetheless, the left-back has quelled reports of his looming exit saying, “I’m very good at Barca. If it were up to me, I would stay for the rest of my life, but it does not depend on me but on what the club wants.
“Well, it also depends on my performance, which has been very good this season.”
