Napoli have killed a move to join the Premier League giants in January. United are desperate to sign the defender in a bid to shore up their defence at the centre.

Napoli is understood to want to tie Koulibaly down with a new deal which is said to be in the pipeline, however the negative reception by fans following their 1-0 defeat at the tail-end of last month, could crumble talks.

United are hopeful that glitch can help them snatch the star at the end of the season if he doesn’t put pen-to-paper.
