Manchester United is reportedly planning a move for versatile Dutch player Frenkie de Jong.
Mourinho is keen on bolstering his squad after missing out on signing his targets this summer.
It was understood the 55-year-old was unhappy with the botched deals after expressing his dissatisfaction before the United board.
He lashed out about not being provided with the kind of squad he needed to challenge champions Manchester City this summer.
United opened the 2018-19 Premier League campaign with a 2-1 home win over Foxes Leicester City before they were stunned3-2 by Brighton at the Amex Stadium and Tottenham at home by 3-0.
Frenkie de Jong is currently prized in the region of 50 million pounds by Ajax and the club is adamant about cutting him from their squad.
However, United are in a comfortable position to snap him up given their relationship with the club.
London based Tottenham are reportedly still in the mix for the 21-year-old’s services after seeing a previous bid for Jong rejected by Ajax according to reports.
Meanwhile La Liga crowned champs Barcelona are reportedly lined up for the budding star’s services. And reports floating about in Spain say they could beat United to getting his signature on paper in January.
Nonetheless, United may blaze past the Catalans in the final hurdle to sign 21-year-old Frenkie de Jong given their tie to former keeper, now turn chief executive officer at Ajax Edwin van der Sar.
