Man United agree transfer of leading scorer, squad no. assigned

How are the mighty fallen, is one cliche that comes to mind when Manchester United’s Captain Wayne Rooney is mentioned for a transfer away from Old Trafford.

England international Wayne Rooney will be allowed to join his boyhood Club Everton on a free transfer, this report is according to the Express.

Manchester United agreed to pay a whopping £75million for Belgian stalwart Romelu Lukaku but this report reveals that the talks currently going on between the Red Devils and the Toffees includes a deal that will see Rooney move to Merseyside.

United had been in the chase of Spanish striker Alvaro Morata, with the player keen on deal after informing his folks that he will quit Madrid for Man United. That deal has now been called off, as Mourinho prefers to have Lukaku as his lead attack.

Wayne Rooney joined Man United under the auspices of Sir Alex Ferguson 13 years ago. He is in the twilight of his career and has recently struggled for a place in the team of Jose Mourinho, but the desire to play more has been the motivation behind his proposed move.

GFN understand that the Toffees are willing to pay £10million for Rooney but it will be waived by the Red Devils so that  Everton will be able to match his wage demand.

According to Goal, Once completed, Rooney will don the number 10 jersey won by Romelu Lukaku, who may be on his way to Old Trafford. Chelsea were favoutites to sign Lukaku but there has been a new twist in the player’s transfer.

Rooney currently holds the record for Man United top scorers.
