Phil Jones may be up for sale as he nears the expiration of his contract with Manchester United, this is according to reports.
Sir Alex Ferguson signed Jones from Blackburn Rovers in the summer of 2011. Since then the English defender appear to have only flatter to deceive, putting up strings of inconsistent performances.
Jose Mourinho handed the sturdy defender chance to prove his mettle but he failed to impress the Portuguese manager and he is low on the selection pecking order of the club.
Part of his weakness is the fact that he is very susceptible to injury and it appears as though he has been unable to shake that off. United are fed and he may be on the January transfer window for sale.
According to the Daily Star, United have reached an impasse with the player over extending his contract and they are likely going to back out on triggering a one year extension in his contract.
United have a plethora of centre-backs to choose from and even when Jones leaves, it would not distort the form of the club.
Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof are the top choice for Jose Mourinho but United are still in the market for a centre-back.
