Current English Premier League champions Manchester City are reportedly on the trail of Ajax young midfielder.
Frankie De Jong was linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur. However, a deal was never finalized. Last summer, Spurs proposed a £25 fee to take the starlet to London. Despite the low price offered buy Spurs last season, Ajax have dreamt even bigger.
At the moment, it is believed that the Dutch club are asking for a total sum of £71 in order to City to capture the midfielder’s signature. According to media reports, Manchester City are ready to match the offer. By paying £71m for Jong would automatically make him the most expensive player at City.
If bough in January, it is understood that Jong will remain at Ajax pending the time he will become valuable for the Citizens. Hence, Jong will be sent back on loan at Ajax for another six months if his signature is captured in January.
This may be the ideal moment for Pep Guardiola’s side to seal Jong’s signing as more clubs are getting interested in the young player, making his asking fee higher. Whether North London club Tottenham Hotspur are willing to match Manchester City’s bid is unknown.
