Liverpool to agree January deal for €50m defender

Liverpool lead the chase in the Premier League, 19 points ahead of Manchester United and one point above former table leaders Manchester City.

While boasting one of the most lethal frontlines in the Premier League, Klopp side is down with one malaise.

His backline has been hit with several knocks this term, despite having the sturdier and reliable Virgil van Dijk at the centre.

Joe Gomez and Joel Matip have both been ruled out for a quick return into action and The Kop is reportedly targeting a few number of replacements.

Klopp has a shortlist of replacements but Netherlands defender Matthjis de Ligt has popped out as favourites to land the job at Anfield.

de Ligt, 19, has garnered plenty of praises for his showoffs for Eredevisie side Ajax this term, who trail behind PSV Eindhoven in their local league.

But the rivalry over his services could see his already confirmed €50m price fee drive further up.

Barcelona and United have set their eyes on the teenager who stock is rising for every match day he gets picked in Ajax’s line-up.

Nonetheless, Klopp is determined to beat his rivals to sign up the 19-year-old who is their best choice for the role at Anfield.
