Liverpool have a battle on their hands in making sure their star attacker Philippe Coutinho remains at Anfield next season.
The Brazilian has been tracked by a number of clubs of which the likes of Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid have been mentioned as the interested clubs. The 25-year-old has impressed all and sundry which has earned him accolades from the highly critical English media.
Consequentially, the Mirror reports that French giant PSG are keen on signing the attacker, and this has the Reds’ boss Jurgen Klopp scratching his head. There is cause for concern since PSG are known to splash the cash when the occasion calls for it, moreso when they are looking to bolster their team.
Unai Emery’s side failed woefully last season, digressing further despite the huge funds spent on the project – having conquered the domestic League for several seasons, they set their sights on winning the UEFA Champions League. However, that has eluded them thus far, further affecting their form in the Ligue 1.
As a means of restructuring, PSG has reportedly shortlisted Coutinho as one of the players to deliver the goods in their attack. Of course their scouts did a perfect job since Coutino recorded 13 goals and 7 assists last season despite not playing as the main target man. He stepped up when he was needed most when Daniel Sturridge was sidelined last term.
However, Liverpool are expected to play hardball with this deal. The same report from L’Equipe says that a £90 million price tag has been quoted in a bid to scare PSG away from their star.
Liverpool are in no particular hurry to sell since the player’s current contract ties him down to the club until the summer of 2022, but a concrete offer could yet force them to sell.
