Defenders could see their prices spike in the market in January as many top clubs are out seeking for this guardians.

United, Chelsea and Arsenal all need one, but it is Liverpool who are in dire need of one.

The Reds are short in their backline. Joel Matip and Joe Gomez who have been brilliant since the season kicked off are out on injuries.

And if no replacement comes in when the year turns over, Liverpool could pay severely for it in the second half of this campaign.

Virgil van Dijk cannot be on every spot on the field for the Reds and if he takes a blow, it could spell the end to Liverpool’s title challenge this season.

Former Real Madrid defender Pepe could be their solution. Reports suggest Liverpool have entered talks over signing the 35-year-old from Portuguese outfit Porto in January.

Pepe has remained resolute and strong at the heart of defence for Porto. So far, he’s made 16 appearances and scored 3 goals in all competitions for the club.

The Brazilian has racked up more experiences and achievements under his belt and he is arguably one of the best defenders in the world
