Kylian Mbappe to Arsenal: Arsene Wenger sanctioned £80m fee for star

Arsenal were keenly interested in signing Monaco youngster Kylian Mbappe, with Arsene Wenger particularly wanting to bring him to the Emirates Stadium this summer to bolster his team.

However, reports have now emerged the North London club cooled their interest in the talented teenager after Real Madrid joined the numbers of clubs vying for his signature.

The 18-year-old became the toast of big clubs across Europe following his exploits for Monaco last season during which he scored 26 goals in all competitions as they won the French Ligue 1 and reached the semi-final of the Champions League.

Wenger had renewed his interest in signing the forward earlier this summer after failing to land him last summer and the French boss had to sign Lucas Perez from Deportivo La Coruna instead.

And Arsenal were said to have considered a bid of £80 million for Mbappe but it has been revealed that the advent of Spanish giants Real Madrid into the foray reportedly made the English club to look the other way and brought in Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon for £52 million, reports Daily Mail.

Barcelona and French heavyweights PSG have also been linked with a move for the forward despite the latter recently completing a world-record deal of £198 million for Neymar from the Camp Nou.

Manchester City have also been credited with interests in Mbappe but it is believed Real remain in pole position to snap up the player probably next summer if a deal fails to materialize this summer.
