Klopp close to agreeing £275k-a-week striker deal for Wenger’s long-term target
A return to Champions League football looks most likely for Liverpool after they thumped the Hornets in a thrilling 1-0 Premier League win last night.
Albeit Liverpool have not lacked the firepower to get the better of teams, they have scored 71 League goals which the second highest to Chelsea’s 72, Jurgen Klopp is looking for a more assured goal poacher and the Reds have been heavily linked with a move for kareem Benzema, reports Don Balon.
Daniel Sturridge has struggled to make any impact than being mostly injured while Divock Origi continues to prove he’s not top-notch. Roberto Firmino has been the makeshift striker for the Reds but he cannot be relied upon if they are to remain competitive and qualify for Champions League.
According to report, Benzema wants a new challenge away from the Bernabeu and he has asked his agent to secure a deal for him. A host of Clubs have been linked with a move for him claims their report last month and Liverpool tops the list.
The French striker has been in an indifferent form this season, scoring only 17 goals in 42 appearance this term and he knows Los Blancos may not want to rely upon him next season. At Liverpool, he is sure of playing regularly and bring back the potency Luis Suarez left.
A major stumbling block for the Reds may be his wage which stands at £275,000-a-week.
Arsenal have been linked with the player in the past, if they can break their wage structure to keep either Mesut Ozil or Alexis Sanchez, they should be able to pay Benzema what he’s worth. However, if you put his age into consideration, Wenger will be coy on making huge offers for him.
