Liverpool may have been edging closer to a Champions League qualification, there biggest challenge has become finding a replacement for Barcelona’s target Philippe Coutinho.
The Reds are now letting their guard down in their quest to keep Brazil born playmaker Philippe Coutinho as they have now asked Barcelona to include Ivan Rakitic as part of the deal, according to report.
Following the transfer Neymar Jnr to Paris Saint Germain, Barcelona have been on a hot chase for Coutinho and despite their offers for the midfield schemer, it has only hit the rocks. The Blaugrana side had made a a whopping £90m for Coutinho but it was meted with outright rebuff.
Coutinho sat out of Liverpool’s Champions League play-off against Hoffenheim last night due to an injury but the star had handed a transfer request to the Reds in a bid to force a move, but Klopp has remained adamant that the player is not for sale.
However, according to Diario Gol, Klopp is a fan of Croatian star Ivan Rakitic and he would only okay the transfer of Coutinho if Barcelona agree a swap deal including Rakitic.
Liverpool have bolstered their squad this season but the sale of Lucas Leiva and the injury to Adam Lallana means they are a tad short of options in the middle of the pack.
Liverpool have slapped a colossal £135m price tag on Coutinho but is left to be seen where he ends up.
