Manchester United’s bigwig Ed Woodward exclaimed in a pig’s arse would he break the club’s rule, stumping up wads of cash to sign any player who will be on the wrong side of 30 in a year’s time.
Such was what tramped their course to sign central defender Toby Alderweireld last summer, and also miss out on signing Alex Witsel in the summer window also.
Woodward’s decision has come back to bite the club, and now Mourinho is not prepared to experience another blowback following his mistakes.
United’s midfield is like butter, you could easily cut through, despite snatching up Fred in the summer from Ukrainian Shakhtar Donestk, instead of Witsel.
Talks floating about, say Mourinho is still keen on signing Witsel, despite the Belgian turning 30 soon.
The move is on the Portuguese’s cards. Fred was their last throw of dice, but he hasn’t delivered the goods as expected. Settling down has been a tad bit rough for the Brazilian, and Mou’s midfield is threadbare with huge concerns over Nemanja Matic.
A long term replacement for Matic is bugging Mourinho, and Fred has shown he’s not yet ready to fit into the Serb’s shoes at the club.
Mourinho will try to convince Woodward to sign Witsel whose price tag could see a further raise from the 10 million pounds he should have be sign for, from Borussia Dortmund in the summer.
