Napoli have shown their interest in Manchester United defender Matteo Darmian and they are are set to buy him in January, per reports.
The Italian giants have been monitoring the player’s situation at Old Trafford as he hasn’t seen much game time under José Mourinho. The Italy International full-back is behind Antonio Valencia, Phil Jones and fit-again Marco Rojo in Manchester United defence pecking order.
United could sell the player to Napoli as they want to create space for incoming defenders including Alex Sandro and Danny Rose from Juventus and Tottenham respectively, claims the Mirror.
Juventus and Roma are also in the race for the Italian player. The Old Lady are said to be in search of a replacement for Alex Sandro who could be on his way to Chelsea or United.
Roma on the other hand, have not been doing brilliantly in the league and coach Luciano Spaletti wants to improve his defence in January so as to qualify for next year’s Champion League competition.
Matteo Darmian joined Manchester United during Louis Van Gaal’s time as United boss. The Italian full-back was regularly used by the Dutch manager, but his game-time has drastically reduced since Mourinho took over as the Red Devils manager in 2016.
Darmian was in action for United yesterday against Bristol City in the Carabao Cup. They were shockingly defeated by the Championship club 2-1, leaving Manchester City, Arsenal, Bristol City and Chelsea as the teams left in the competition.
According to transfermarkt, he is valued at 15,00 Mill. €.
