Jose Mourinho has revealed why he left Paul Pogba on the bench for 90mins in Man United defeat to Liverpool on Sunday, according to reports.
United suffered their fifth defeat in the League at the hands of the Reds and one big name was missing, Paul Pogba. The World Cup winner was surprisingly not called up to play as the table toppers thrashed United 3-1.
Pogba was shambolic in United’s 2-2 draw against Southampton earlier this month and Mourinho had described the player as a “virus” in front of his other teammates.
He has not started a Premier League game since then and he has been unused from the bench in two games after then.
As usual, Mourinho was quizzed on his decision to leave out the player on the bench and his responses were telling.
He was asked if at some point he considered bring him Pogba to the fray against Liverpool and he expressing said “No”
He further revealed that decision saying, ‘Because I am happy with Matic, Lingard and Herrera.’
Pogba has been increasingly linked with a move away from United. Although the January transfer window is fast approaching, Man United legend legend Roy Keane expects the French player to be sold but in the summer.
‘If he’s sitting on the bench today and not getting on then you’re thinking his days must be numbered,’ Keane said.
‘I don’t think they’ll do anything with Pogba in January but come the summer you move him on and it’s no big deal, he’s left Manchester United before.’
