Eden Hazard had been on United’s watch list in 2012 before agreeing to join Chelsea, yet it hasn’t stopped Jose Mourinho from finding another Eden for United.
Anthony Martial has become Mourinho’s saviour in the past four matches. Just few weeks back, there were reports in the media that the Portuguese was going to face the sack irrespective of the club’s result against Newcastle.
Mourinho’s time at United seemed all over. Twenty minutes into the game, the Red Devils were down 2-0 to a team who had yet to win a single Premier League game in 2018/19.
It was pretty difficult to see how United were going to salvage a point, let alone win the game. Well, they did. Thanks to Juan Mata, Anthony Martial, and Alexis Sanchez, the Old Trafford outfit won with a 3-2 scoreline.
While the whole team looked solid in the second half of that game, Martial stood out. Since that match, he has featured in every United game. During the weekend against Everton, in fact, he played full match.
Slowly and interestingly, Martial is developing into the kind of player Mourinho wants him to be. He is not just rising up to the big opponents; he is literally lifting the team. Like Hazard at Chelsea, Martial is becoming the kind of player who opponents fear and helps his team secure the all-important win.
