One of the challenges facing Jose Mourinho is a selection headache that has left some of his mega star players unhappy but the Portuguese tactician appears unfazed by this situation.
Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial have been linked with a move away from the fortress of Old Trafford following the lack of game time handed to them but Jose Mourinho has challenged the attacking duo to earn a place in his starting XI, per reports.
The arrival of Alexis Sanchez has pushed the aforementioned duo down the selection pecking order of Mourinho and the duo are reportedly frustrated at their inability to play constantly. Martial and Rashford used to slug it out for a place on the left wing of Manchester United but Alexis Sanchez rightfully became the owner of the position after completing a switch from Arsenal in the January transfer window.
Rashford has started only one Premier League since the start of this year while Martial has started in two of Manchester United last nine League games. Their current situation is bound their affect their places in the national team as they prepare for the World Cup in Russia, so you can understand their frustration.
Despite this, Mourinho has failed to sympatise with the players
“If I was you I would go why [Romelu] Lukaku plays every match, why [Nemanja] Matic plays every match,” Mourinho told a news conference on Friday.”You always go to the one, the answer is if you want what I call dry answers, I have dry answers and a dry answer is only 11 can start the match and we are 22.
“It is just football, we cannot have 11 players, it would be amazing economically for the football clubs to have only 11 and play with the same 11, no injuries, suspension, fatigue, it would be better for everyone to have only 11 but is not possible.
“At every club and every level, you need more than 11 players and only 11 can start, is as simple as that, there’s nothing I can do.”
Manchester United take on West Brom in the Premier League on Sunday and the players will be hoping to start a game.
