Is Kylian Mbappe really worth €120 million?
Manchester United attack have relied heavily on the scoring form of Zlatan Ibrahimovic this season, , prior to picking a cruciate ligament injury, and despite his scoring prowess United have struggled in front of goal most times.
That inability to find the cutting edge in the final third easily point to why our 26 games unbeaten run in the Premier League has not taken us beyond the fifth position on the league standing.
In the light of that, Jose Mourinho has been linked with summer move for a number of strikers in Europe with Kylian Mbappe appearing in the news as a priority for the Special One, though signing him would require United parting with colossal sums of money.
As per reports, United have had an initial offer of €85M (£71.8 million) rejected by the Ligue 1 table toppers and they are demanding an outrageous amount for the teenager.
With Ibrahimovic’s United career over and a place in the Champions League very much in the offing, a competent forward is needed at Old Trafford to lead the line, but forking out up to £100 million for an 18-year-old player is not really a risk worth taking.
Besides, United should have taken a cue from Anthony Martial’s deal, whose move from Monaco to Old Trafford in 2015 made him the costliest teenager in the world, but went from a hero to villain in a space of one year.
Mbappe is no doubt one of the great prospects in Europe and has been compared with Arsenal legend, Thierry Henry. He has scored 24 goals in 38 appearances for his club this season, but one-season performance is not enough a yard-stick for judging a player’s ability. Much to that, he would be switching to a league regarded as the most demanding and rigorous in Europe.
United are not the only club that have been keeping tab on the player. Arsenal are reportedly on his case too, but giving Arsene Wenger’s antecedent in the transfer market, Mbappe price tag would have thrown him out of the player’s chase.
I don’t think he’s worth that price tag, what do you think?
