Injury blow for Liverpool as one more key player is ruled out of Tottenham clash

Liverpool have suffered a blow as second choice and backup plan Simon Mignolet has been ruled out for a return.

The 30-year-old suffered an injury knock and will not play for the Red Devils of Belgium in their international playoff against Scotland.

Jurgen Klopp is stuck with only Alisson and the 51-year-old will remain hopeful he remains fit ahead of their big Premier League clash against Spurs.

Spurs shocked United with a massive and impressive 3-0 win at Old Trafford a fortnight ago.

Jurgen Klopp will look to avoid any mishap in that clash against Spurs after the break.

Liverpool top the Premier League standings with a lone goal difference against former champions Chelsea.

However, Liverpool has downplayed talks he is worried about the 30-year-old and has refuted claims he could be absent in their Premier League clash against Tottenham.

A club statement said: “Simon Mignolet has withdrawn from the Belgium squad due to injury.

“The Liverpool goalkeeper had been called up by Roberto Martinez for the friendly with Scotland and subsequent UEFA Nations League tie against Iceland.

“But the injury has ruled Mignolet out of the fixtures with his country.

“The 30-year-old is expected to be available when the Reds return to action at Tottenham Hotspur next weekend, however.”

Mignolet was touted to leave the club for Turkey last month, but that failed to materialise.
