Chelsea remain shell-shocked after losing Leandro Peredes to European rivals Paris Saint-Germain last week.
The Blues were in pole position to land the 24-year-old, only for PSG to steal a march on Maurizio Sarri’s side in signing the youngster.
Chelsea still face a tough challenge of replacing Cesc Fabregas who joined Monaco this month.
Peredes had been touted to fill the Spaniard’s boot at the club after initial target Nicollo Barella was seen as too pricey for the west Londoners.
But, Peredes signed for PSG instead, leaving Blues out in the cold as they return to the back to Cagliari trying to hammer out softer fee for Barella.
Barella is commanding a fee north of 40 million pounds, leaving Chelsea to palm their face, hoping they can get a good deal for Barella.
Speaking on his move from Zenit St Petersburg’s to Paris Saint-Germain, it was clear Peredes’ choice had been made from the onset.
He said: “I’m very proud to be joining Paris Saint-Germain.
“After my previous experiences in Italy and Russia, I now have this fantastic opportunity, not only to discover a new league, but above all one to wear one the most prestigious club jerseys in the world.
“We all know the extraordinary sporting dimension of Paris Saint-Germain, its players and staff.”
