Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera has reiterated his commitment to the club, putting an end to speculations of a move to Barcelona.
The Spain international was in impressive form for Man United last season as Jose Mourinho, arguably, built the midfield around him, making 50 appearances in the process.
It was reported that United have opened talks with Herrera over a new improved contract that would see him earn £175,000 per week, putting him among the top earners at the club. He has a year left on his current contract but United are ready to offer him another long-term deal.
The arrival of his former Atletico Bilbao Coach as the new boss at Barcelona led to the speculations that the 27-year-old may switch to the Spanish giants this summer, but it is understood the Old Trafford outfits are not ready to let go of their midfield star while the player has also distanced himself from such reports.
“There is nothing certain about Barcelona because I am very happy at United and I feel valued and focused here,” Herrera said after United 5-2 victory over LA Galaxy in their pre-season game.
Herrera joined Man United for £29 million in 2014 from Atletico Bilbao and after struggling for form under Coach Louis van Gaal, he has since found his feet under Mourinho, earning the club’s Player of the Year award for his excellent performances last season.
He has won the FA Cup, League Cup, Europa League and Community Shield in over 100 appearances for United.
