Liverpool are looking to go one better than they did last season but Klopp is full aware that he must reduce the headcount of his players in order to balance the books of the Reds.
Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that the Liverpool career of Lazar Markovic is effectively over, according to reports.
Despite featuring for Liverpool in their pre-season friendly against Tranmere, the Serbian international has been dropped from the Red’s squad for their pre-season tour in Hong-Kong.
The 23-year-old Serbian winger joined Liverpool in the summer of 2014 from Benfica after a £20million deal was brokered but he has scantily featured for the Anfield Club since his move – he’s featured 34 times for Liverpool.
Markovic has spent two years on loan at Fenerbahce, Sporting and Hull City respectively but he’s failed to impress Jurgen Klopp, who is looking to offload the winger.
“With Lazar, it’s no secret that if he finds a club then we will negotiate. It was like this last year too,” Klopp told the ECHO.
“He’s a really good player. I like him as a person.
“He’s now fit and another one who is in the best shape since I’ve known him.
“Before he had problems with his groin but now he’s good. There will be a club out there who needs him.”
Klopp has already bolstered the final third of his squad with Mohamed Salah and Dominic Solanke, Markovic has no place in the squad and his best bet at playing regularly is away from Liverpool.
There is currently no offer for the player on table but Liverpool are expected to recoup some funds from his sale.
Meanwhile, Liverpool are still interested in the signing of Van Dijk.
