Manchester United have their team already bolstered ahead of the upcoming campaign – Romelu Lukaku signed from Everton while Victor Lindelof joined from Portuguese side Benfica. Nemanja Matic is on the verge of being announced as the third signing of the Club but his potential arrival is sure to change the outlook of the Red Devils.
The other players have been involved in United’s pre-season tour, but given the experience of Matic and probably his sign on fee, he’s expected to slot into the team of the Red Devils. While Matic is on the cusp of joining, Perisic has been linked but no progress has been made to get the player.
We take a swipe at how Man United could line up with Nemanja Matic in midfield.
David De Gea is staying put at Man United and he’ll continue in-between the sticks for United as first choice with Sergio Romero backing him up.
Although, the Red Devils have been linked with a for Serge Aurier of Paris Saint Germain, Antonio Valencia will be the man to play from the right back and he’ll be flanked by Daley Blind who occupies the left. Meanwhile, new signing Victor Lindelof has looked shaky in all his pre-season cameos but he could just be going through a period of adaption.
He’ll most likely pair Eric Bailly at heart of defence for Man United.
A lot of plaudits was given to N’golo Kante when Chelsea won the League but he did well along Matic, who ensured the midfield of the Blues was impenetrable. For United, Matic will be expected to sit deep in midfield and he ‘ll play along Ander Hererra, who will be freed up to make his runs. This has to be the most competitive area of Mourinho’s squad.
In front of the two central midfielders will be Paul Pogba, who played more of a free-role while with the Old Lady. He’ll be allowed to roam the length and breadth of his team and the creative responsibility will be laid on him.
While many think Rashford would make the team, Mourinho sees the youngster as a striker and so he will play second fiddle to Lukaku. Lukaku will lead the men, then flanked by him will be Mkhitaryan on the right and Martial on the left.
