Henrikh Mkhitaryan has dominated the headline of Arsenal transfer news and he is expected to complete the long awaited move later today. While we await the confirmation of the star as a Gunner, Arsene Wenger has revealed how he intends to field the star along Mesut Ozil.
First off, Wenger expects Mesut Ozil to renew his contract with Arsenal on or before the close of the season and continue to play as the Gunners attacking spine.
Ozil had refused to sign a new contract with Arsenal but it has been recently posited that the Germany play maker £200,000 per week put pen to paper on a new deal that will see him earn as much as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Mkhi once their deals are completed.
With the plethora of midfielders and attacking players already at Wenger’s disposal, he laid bare his plans on how Mkhi would fit in his squad with Ozil.
“How do I fit them in? I just play the good players. They can always play together. Today all the players we had on the pitch were attacking players.
“[Alex] Iwobi, Ozil, [Jack] Wilshere, Lacazette, [Granit] Xhaka – they are all offensive players.
Mkhi can play on any of the flanks or behind the striker but his likeliest position for Arsenal would be on the left flank as Alexis Sanchez.
However, Arsene Wenger may revert to playing a back four, which may see Mkhi play on the right, Ozil behind Lacazette and Iwobi on the left flank.
Wenger has a knack for fielding his stars recklessly – part of why Iwobi has been below par is the fact that he is being played out of his natural position. The Nigerian does better when even he plays from the left wing and we hope Mkhi will be played in his best position.
