Nicollo Barella will not be leaving Cagliari’s this month despite loudly claimed by the media since his move to Chelsea had hyped after the Blues confirmed their interests in the 21-year-old.
Chelsea want a replacement for Cesc Fabregas who left the outfit for Monaco. Getting his specs has been a tough one for Chelsea and Barella is believed to have come closest to what they wanted.
However, Blues may have to turn their attentions elsewhere after Cagliari’s director Mario Passetti ruled out the possibility of selling the player, yesterday.
“We continue to talk about him, we do interviews and issue statements, but evidently we’re not being clear enough: we reiterate that [Barella] will stay for at least for the next six months.”
Passetti admitted selling him is not on the club’s list.
“After that, we’ll see what happens in the summer. We have big ambitions and Nicolò gives 1000 percent in every training session and he’s happy to be at Cagliari. Selling him isn’t one of our objectives.”
Chelsea already have another option as backup and Zenit St Petersburg’s Leandro Peredes is already on the Blues card. Talks over his transfer is reportedly nearing a good conclusion.
