Frank Lampard’s Rams Derby have been knocked back by shameful defeat to sign Chelsea star Ethan Ampadu.
The former Chelsea legend, now turned manager has been looking to shore up his backline this term and was hopeful the Blues would farm out Ampadu on loan to the Championship side.
However, that is unlikely to happen as the Championship are finding it hard to get Chelsea into taking their loan-bait and let the young star join them on loan for the rest of the season.
The Evening Standard reported that Derby was sniffing around the player and was strongly keen on landing him for the rest of the Championship season. But their intentions have been rubbed out as Chelsea are not willing to let the Welshman leave on loan this term.
Ampadu is a versatile player who can play as a central midfielder or a centre-back and is understood to have been pinned into boss Maurizio Sarri’s plan for Chelsea this term.
The Blues are a little shorthanded at their backline and at the centre and Ampadu could step up to the plate for tired or injured players, due to the swathe number of games on the horizon.
“We have asked, but I don’t think he’s leaving Chelsea. ”
“He can play in a few positions, that’s why he would be so valuable to anybody and why he’s staying at Chelsea.” Said Frank Lampard on why the loan deal was thwarted.
