Jose Mourinho began rebuilding the team of Manchester United last season and this effort has seen a chunk of quality players lacing their boots for the Red Devils.
There is competition for places in Man United, which is expected to bring out the best in the players but versatile English star Ashley has revealed that he’ll fight for a place in the first team of Jose Mourinnho.
Young arrived Man United in the summer of 2011 and he was instantly a hit for the club. However, the 32-year-old star has seen his stock fallen since the arrival of Jose Mourinho last season and he was heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford last term.
He had an uninspiring campaign last season where he managed just eight starts in the league and was eventually banjaxed with injury towards the latter part of the campaign. He has returned to full training with the first team of the Red Devils, and he is brewing to play for his team.
“As a player, you want to be back on the pitch and it was good to get minutes under my belt,” he said.
“I’m feeling good, I’m feeling fit. I could’ve played longer, but I was brought off.
“I’ve worked hard since I had the operation done 13 weeks ago, so I’m happy to be back out there.
“For us, it was a bit like a pre-season game. We’re obviously trying to get the win, but we wanted to get the fitness levels up too, and we’ll just take it from here.”
“I’ve been training with the team for 10 days or so now, so, whenever the manager calls on me, I’m ready to go.”
Young is natural an attacker but he has become Jose Mourinho’s utility player. The 32-year-old English star can play as a right or left back, he can also be utilised on any of the flanks. He may not be able to dislodge the likes of Rashford or Mkhitaryan in the attack but he is sure to get cameos from the bench.
