After scoring three goals in two games, Anthony Martial is slowly becoming a player after Mourinho’s heart as the club prepares a contract for him.
Signed in 2015 during Van Gaal’s reign as United manager, Martial was tipped for greatness. Many touted him as the next Thierry Henry. In his maiden season at Old Trafford, he did enough to live up to the expectations as he became the club’s top goalscorer.
Martial was shouldering much of United’s goalscoring responsibilities which may be too much for a teenager. However, he coped well and never showed signs of being under pressure.
Mourinho’s arrival at United would change everything. It was the beginning of something else for the former Monaco man.
It is a well-publicised news that Mourinho hasn’t treated the youngster well. He has been at the end of criticism from the manager for several reasons. The Frenchman has been out of favour since Mourinho took charge of the Old Trafford team in 2016. In recent times, however, he looks to be getting into the Portuguese’s good books.
Following a turbulent season where United are finding it hard to win games, Martial brings hope to the Old Trafford faithful.
Martial is set to sign a contract believed to be around £160,000 a week. While contract talks have been rumoured for a while, it is easy to think that his recent displays have earned him a priority within the club’s ranks.
