Manchester United have been handed a massive boost in their pursuit of Shahktar and Brazilian winger Fred after the player confirmed that he will consider chasing a dream move after the world cup mundial, this is according to report.
Fred has been one of the best players for Shahktar Donetsk since his move in 2013. He was heavily linked with a move to Manchester City in the January window but Guardiola opted to sign a defender Aymeric Laporte in a record £57million deal. While City may still be lurking around to sign him, United have other clubs to compete with for his signature.
Man United are a thread bare in the middle of the pack and Mourinho to looking to add midfielders to his squad. Michael Carrick has hung his boots while the future of Marouane Fellaini remains uncertain as he is yet to sign a new deal with club.
Following the signing of Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal in the January transfer window, Mourinho revealed that United will mainly be in the market for midfielder(s). And now, Fred reckons that he will ‘look at his options’ as he aims to lace his boots for the biggest European clubs.
Speaking to SporTV, he said: “I’m very happy at Shakhtar. I’ve been working well here but it has been five years.
“I made it clear to the club that I was very happy here but I want to make a bigger leap in my career. There are other clubs interested in England and France. I want to make a bigger leap, I made it clear to the club.
“Now I just have to wait to get through the World Cup and see which is the best destination. I think I have to change a little. I have dreams of playing in major clubs in Europe. I made it clear that it’s my moment.
“The club are reluctant to release (me). I have a contract until 2021. As soon as I come back from the World Cup we will sit down, talk and look at the options.”
United ended this Premier League season as runners up but they will be looking to go one better when next season comes alive.
