José Mourinho chopped off Phil Jones after his blunders in the games against Rams Derby, Tottenham and the FA Cup final against Conte’s Chelsea last season.
The ‘Special One’ opted to play Victor Lindelof instead. Lindelof has been delivering the goods, until a thigh injury left him on the sidelines, ruling him out for the next couple of fixtures.
Before now, clubs have been parading to sign Phil Jones, since Mourinho trimmed him out of his team sheet.
But Mou has started him again in his backline. Jones starred in the European League clash against Young Boys on Tuesday, and despite pounding worries whether he was up to the task, he managed to keep his head in the game.
Arsenal and Liverpool have reportedly been credited with interest in the out-of-favour star.
And despite Mourinho inclining his back to pick him up from the dump he subjected him to, their is no reassurance he will stick with Jones when Lindelof is back on both feet again.
Ivorian Eric Bailly has yet to meet the Portuguese’s expectations, and until then Jones may likely rack up a few appearances under his belt before Lindelof’s return.
Mourinho’s men take a trip to Southampton on Saturday when they return back to local league action.
