Good news: Arsenal close in on deal for €23m-rated Liverpool target

The style of Arsenal is hinged on ball retention and this is made possible by a midfield that has a blend of creative and disciplined players. Since the departure the Invincibles Patrick Vieira, the Gunners have not had a midfield marshal that can stamp his authority in a game but Xhaka is slowly showing glimpses of that.

Arsenal are heavily attracted to Germany born midfielder Leon Goretzka and they interested in signing the player, reports Bild.

Goretzka had a barnstorming season for his side last season, where he featured in 30 League games and scored five times – his stellar performance for Schalke 04 didn’t go unnotice as he is currently on the radar of Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Real Madrid.

Leon Goretka, 22, is in the final 12-months of his current contract and GFN understands that Arsenal are front runners for his signature as it is given that Arsene Wenger has long been keeping tabs on the player. However, The Royal Blues are bent on keeping the player.

Arsene Wenger has bolstered his squad with two new signings but he has spent only £52million on Alexandre Lacazette, he is poised to spend more in order to reinforce other areas of his team ahead of the upcoming season.

The report by Bild claims Goretzka stalled over a £7million-a-year contract extension deal and his Club revealed that they would not accept €20-30m offers for him. Arsenal still have enough money to spend in the transfer window unless the frugal nature of Wenger gets the better of him.

With the uncertainty surrounding the future of Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla, the midfield is one area Wenger must bolster, and Goretzka will be a perfect fit for the Gunners.

There is no telling if Goretzka can displace any player in the midfield of Arsenal but his ability to hold on the ball, pick passes and score from outside the box, will certain add value to the Gunners.

He is valued at 23,00 Mill. € per transfermarkt
