Good news: £50m-rated Liverpool target dropped from squad amid transfer talks

If Jurgen Klopp must push for the Premier League title, then he must reinforce his leaky defense. Last term the Reds scored as many as 78 goals in the League but their leaky defense allowed 42 goals at the back of their net, which affected their chances for the title.

Klopp is fully aware of the need sign a top-notch defender and reports according to Skysports has indicated that a deal for Dutch defender Virgil Van Dijk might just be close following the absence of the player’s name from the list of Southamptons  pre-season squad members for the upcoming season.

Liverpool have been heaavily linked with a move for the Dutch defender but they were forced to issue a public apology following accusations of tapping up the player.

The 25-year-old has since been training alone and he has informed the Saints boss Mauricio Pellegrino of his desire to switch Club. Pellegrino wants to hold on to the player and he wants him to show commitment.

“The boy said that he is not available to play because he wants to leave,” Pellegrino told BBC Radio Solent. “This is the decision.

“I had to say, ‘If you don’t want to be involved because you don’t feel okay then you have to train alone until this period of time is over.

“He is not involved with the team because psychologically he is not 100 per cent. I need to work with the players who are 100 per cent to defend Southampton. It’s easy for me.”

Van Dijk signed a contract extension with Southampton last summer but he fancies a move to a Club in the Champions League.

Liverpool have already bolstered their squad with Mohamed Salah, Dominic Solanke and Andrew Robertson, Klopp is unsatisfied with his strides in the market and he has identified the centre-back position as an area he must bolster.

Van Dijk is valued at  £50million but there is no telling if they will let the player leave this summer.
