With 10 matches yet to be played in the Premier League, Chelsea are clear favorite to clinch the title as they sit 10 points ahead of Tottenham who are on second spot on the Log. Following their consistency, former Manchester United midfielder Gary Neville reckons that the title is already won by the Blues.
Under Jose Mourinho last season, Chelsea had a dreadful season but the aforementioned Portuguese was relieved of his duty at Stamford Bridge. Guus Hiddinks manned the managerial position and he led Chelsea to ending the season as the 10th placed Premier League team.
The appointment of Antonio Conte saw a rejuvenated Chelsea – although earlier in the season, the Blues were thumped by Liverpool and Arsenal but they picked up from there and have remained on form ever since.
Chelsea were hosted by Stoke City in a thrilling encounter last weekend. Willian gave Chelsea the lead in the 13th minutes but the Potters were level on goals before the close of the first half with a goal by Jonathan Walters in the 38th minutes. However, it was Cahill’s late winner that secured the three points for Conte and his men.
With Chelsea’s lead on the Premier League table maintained, Neville reckons that this year’s challenge is over.
“Chelsea have looked like champions for the last 20 matches,” Neville told Sky Sports.
“There’s still quite a bit to go, don’t think we can give them the title yet.
“However they are not picking up the injuries, a month ago I thought could stop them.
“Everything you would point towards in a championship winning team is happening.”
Chelsea won the League two seasons ago, if they win this year’s, it will culminate into their fifth Premier League title.
