Chelsea have commenced talks to sign German and Bayern Munich defender Matt Hummels in January, reports in Germany confirmed.
Maurizio Sarri is keen to shore up the Blues backfield in January and Germany international Hummels is being coveted by the Blues.
The 30-year-old is struggling to hold down a spot in the Bavarian outfit and is stubbornly seeking to push a transfer through, away from Munich.
The player’s agent Marc Kosicke has reportedly travelled to London to start talks over his transfer with Chelsea and Tottenham. The latter is said to be keen on the player’s services.
Hummels has just over two years remaining on his current deal at Munich, but is growing frustrated over the sideline treatment he’s being served with at the club.
Bayern’s chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has insisted the centre-back will remain at the outfit, irrespective of rumours floating about in the media.
Rummenigge told Bild, “We had a conversation with Mats a few days ago and he will play for Bayern Munich in the second half of the season”.
The German club’s director Hasan Salihamidzic also confessed that they’d had series of talks with Hummels and everything remains okay.
