Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred is widely reported to be on the cusp of sealing a move to Manchester United but the Brazilian has delivered an update on his future, suggesting that he will make a decision on the move but not before the close of the world cup, per report.
United are currently in the market for the signing of a defensive midfielder as replacement for Michael Carrick and they had tabled a £52m bid for Fred on Wednesday. It was reported that the player will be in Liverpool in the first week of June for a friendly game and United will take advantage of the situation to put him through medicals for the deal.
Man City were heavily linked with a move for the player in the January transfer window but they opted to sign Aymeric Laporte. While United are in pole position to sign Fred, City could revive their interest as they are also in the search for a replacement for Yaya Toure.
Fred is a key figure for Shaktar in the Ukrainian league but it appears that the Red Devils will have to wait longer if they must realise their dream of signing him.
“Maybe after the World Cup I will make the choice,” as reported by the Mirror.
“Now, I am only thinking about the World Cup.”
United are also lurking to sign Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic for the same midfield position and it is certain that Mourinho will sign a DM before the start of the season.
