Forget Ozil: Paul Scholes discovers new no.10 for Man United

Jose Mourinho has been linked with a move for Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil and this is because the Red Devils lacks a creative hub that can retain possession and offer threats in attack creatively. Last night in Man United win over Watford FC, Jesse Lingard stood out and he has been dubbed as the new no.10 by Paul Scholes.

Spending about three years on loan at various clubs from 2012, Lingard, who joined Man United academy at age seven, returned to Manchester United in the 2015/16 season. Under Jose Mourinho, the 24-year-old has not seen so much game time, but Jose Mourinho has showed faith and belief in the star.

Lingard was handed a bogus £100,000-a-week deal when he extended his contract in April. Mourinho had sold a couple of players last season when he was appointed but many questioned the decision to keep Lingard at Old Trafford but Mourinho seem to have found a gem in the star.

Renowned for his goal in Man United FA Cup and League Cup final, his quality on the pitch is yet overlooked and such bias do not make fans and his critiques see the good in his game. However, he scored a solo goal last night and he may have permanently put Henrikh Mkhitaryan on the bench.

Though Man United lost their Champions League game to FC Basel, the 24-year-old displayed composure, skill, pace and intelligence on and off the ball.

Rio Ferdinand and Paul Scholes have watched the star developed but Scholes reckons that he could be the new no.10 for Jose Mourinho.

“This lad’s got real talent,” he told BT Sport. “He gets in great positions – we just need to see it more often now.

“He hasn’t really established himself in the first team. That’s his aim now.

“He’s got great ability – he can score a goal, make a goal with either foot. All the attributes you want for a number 10 or midfield player.”

His submission is a justification for Jose Mourinho faith and belief in the star.
