Mourinho’s dismissal following the loss to Liverpool never came as surprising.
It didn’t take anyone to know the Portuguese coach had it coming. United had given him enough rope and the Red Devils loss to Liverpool was the match that broke the camel’s back.
Former United striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will act as interim boss for now, until United’s hierarchy can find the Portuguese’s successor.
Solskjaer has a big work on his hand, and though he showed no hints of being worried in the job as caretaker manager, it is understood there’s piling pressure and heaping optimism he can steer the club from the path they have trotted on under the ‘Special One’.
And one of them would be making the players happy again. During Mourinho’s stretch, the Portuguese was caught in a web of conflicts with senior players of the club and it was said they struggled to gel with their former manager.
Spaniard Juan Mata has been linked with a move to Real Madrid according to Spanish outlet El Gol Digital.
The midfielder fits the bill as suggested by the media outlet, which added that Madrid boss Santiago Scolari wants the Spaniard in the club’s ranks.
Mata had a fall out with Mourinho, after growing increasingly frustrated over lack of regular first-team football and was rumoured with an exit which is still on the player’s cards as he has yet to extend his stay at Old Trafford.
