Elseid Gëzim Hysaj should have been a Chelsea player, but his move to join the FA Cup champions was scuppered according to the right-back’s agent.
The attack-minded towering right-back was linked with a move to join the former Premier League champions last season, after Sarri’s heated exit away from Naples side Napoli.
It is understood Sarri had succeeded in swaying some players to join him at Stamford Bridge. Though only Jorginho got the nod to leave by Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis.
According to revealed reports, De Laurentiis shelved any efforts by Chelsea to bait his players, including Hysaj.
After Jorginho left Chelsea, and the ruckus that followed Sarri’s exit, the Napoli president blocked further transfer between Chelsea and the Naples outfit, preventing players from swapping for Chelsea.
Speaking to Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli, as cited on TEAMtalk, Mario Giuffredi confirms that the player would have joined the Blues if the clause had been removed.
He said: “Without that clause he probably would have gone to Chelsea this summer.”
Chelsea look balanced in their back lines. They have surprisingly bounced back from their messy situation from last season, and on levelled points with leaders Manchester City.
The Blues take on Mourinho’s Manchester United after the international break.
