Chelsea have been dealt a huge blow in their quest to land Italy and Cagliari midfielder Nicolo Barella after the club’s president ruled out a move for the player in January, per reports.
Maurizio Sarri has put up some of Chelsea players for sale including Danny Drinkwater and the future of Cesc Fabregas remains uncertain. According to reports earlier this week, Sarri has taken note of the performances of Barella and he had sanctioned a €45 million (£40.7m) bid for him.
Barella has been described by Juventus legend Andrea Pirlo as one of the best midfielders in the Seria A and his display since breaking into the first team of Cagliari has been nothing short of impressive. He has been linked with a move to Liverpool, Tottenham, Juventus, Inter and Chelsea, claims the Metro.
However, Cagliari will not allow him to leave midway through the season.
‘It’s been like this for months,’ Giulini told Radiolina.
‘I believe it’s only right that we enjoy him for as long as he’s here with us. ‘If things change then we’ll announce it, but he’s very happy here and the club no intention of selling him.
‘Reading that there are many offers for him isn’t right. ‘I hope he stays with us for a long time and certainly, like I’ve already said before, he won’t leave in January.’
