Chelsea have missed signing promising midfielder Nicollo Barella by a long mile.
The Blues will lose the 21-year-old to Italian Serie A heavyweights Inter Milan, who are believed to have agreed a fee for the Cagliari midfielder.
Chelsea had handpicked Barella as the perfect replacement for Cesc Fabregas who moved to join struggling Ligue 1 side Monaco this month.
The Blues were looking to sign him over the month, after boss Maurizio Sarri barked out a pressing want to have him replaced immediately this month.
Barella won’t be allowed to leave Cagliari as revealed by the club this month, with the youngster admitting he’s not in a rush to leave this month.
Inter, according to Calciomercato will first pay an initial 40 million euros, and then cough up another 10 million euros in bonuses.
Barella is a prominent youngster and could grow up to become one of the finest midfielders in the whole of Europe.
Inter won’t be able to haul him in until after six months when the summer window reopens this year.
Barella has been capped four times for Italy national team and has been a regular figure at the heart of Cagliari’s midfield.
Chelsea however, have lined up Zenit St Petersburg’s Leandro Peredes to replace Fabregas.
