Chelsea are on the cusps of completing a deal for AS Roma defender Antonio Rudiger, but the player has made a bold assertion about their capital neighbours Arsenal.
The defender has revealed that he grew up supporting Arsenal and even has the Gunners’ jersey in his possession. Rudiger is set to complete a deal worth £36 million (€39million) in days after Roma rejected an initial bid in the region of £30 million for the centre-back.
The star defender is expected to be a direct replacement for John Terry who was released from the club’s books this summer. At 24, he has etched his name into footballing folklore and looks set to solidify the Antonio Conte’s defence who could utilise a 3-man defence next season.
His admiration of Arsenal may not auger well with some Blues fans who would have loved him better if he hid where his loyalty lies, though he may likely win them over with his performances over the cause of his stay, but they should prepare for the worse cause he literally would beg for a jersey swap when we go head-to-head in the new season.
‘I have been following Arsenal since the days of Henry and Bergkamp,’ the 24-year-old said.
‘I have always dreamed of the Premier League. I watch videos of Arsenal all the time on YouTube and I often wear the current Alexis Sanchez shirt.
‘My heart beats for Arsenal.’
Meanwhile Arsenal have secured the signing of Alexandre Lacazette and we sure know he will do the likes of Rudiger and his potential teammates at Chelsea no favours.
