The appointment of Luis Van Gaal to the reigns of Man United brought hopes alive at Old Trafford. The Dutch tactician joined Man United with the pedigree of an A-class coach but despite his huge spending, he failed to better David Moyes’ record and to bring the glory days for Man United.
Among other deals, LVG sanctioned a United’s deal for Dutch winger Memphis Depay in the summer of 2015, and he was handed the famous squad no. 7, which laid so much expectation on the player but he failed to replicate the same form for PSV that earned him the Eredivisie top scorer’s award in 2015.
His form dipped and he could not earn a place in the team of Jose Mourinho. He was sold at a loss to French side Lyon in January, where he seem to have found his form. He featured in 17 games for League games for Lyon and scored five goals, providing eight assists for his teammates.
The 23-year-old winger was quizzed recently about a possible return to Man United but he said he’s happy with his current Club and have no regrets leaving Man United.
“No, to be honest. It’s not in my thoughts,” he told TuttoMercatoWeb .
“I’m very focused on Lyon, and I’m very happy about my choice, and I don’t think of anything else other than to do the best for this team.”
We understand that United inserted a buy-back clause in player’s contract but Jose Mourinho is unlikely to go for the player anytime soon.
United are heavily linked with a move for Ivan Perisic as Mourinho looks to bolster his squad ahead of the upcoming season.
