Done deal, Photo: Arsenal to announce first January transfer, not Suarez

Emiliano Martinez will join Championship side Reading FC on loan for the remainder of the season, this is according to reports.

The Argentinean joined Arsenal as a teenager in 2010 and broke through the several ranks of the club. He has had loan spells Oxford United, Sheffield Wednesday, Rotherham United and Wolves.

Under Arsene Wenger, he signed a long term contract with Arsenal in 2016 but the 26-year-old star has remained down the selection pecking order of the club ever since.

Arsenal signed Bernd Leno in the summer, and sold David Ospina. The aforementioned German has remained first choice for Arsenal but there is hope of Martinez following Petr Cech decision to hang his gloves at the end of the season.

The Gunners are now linked with the signing of a goalkeeper but if Martinez convinces Emery enough, he could return next season as second choice.

Martinez will spend the rest of the season at Madjeski Stadium and that has been confirmed on Twitter.

An announcement is expected to be made today.

Reading confirmed the signing of Nelson Oliveira on Tuesday.

  1. Very bad foresight on the part of Arsenal management. What if any of Leno or Cech is to be injured now? They will start running from pillar to post. With the way Arsenal players are getting injured and out of the season these days, Loaning Martinez out does not make any sense at all.
